With a delectable choice of gourmet food and an incredible line-of international and local artists, the 5th DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival is set to live up to its reputation as South Africa’s top culinary and entertainment festival.
Running over two days on 7 and 8 October, the main headline act for Saturday, 7 October, will be the Academy Award, Golden Globe and Grammy-winning actor and hip-hop recording artist, Common.
Festival goers are in for a rare treat with some of the best rap songs from his 11 studio albums. Common’s 11th studio album, Black America Again, which was released in November 2016, includes the socially conscious new single, Black America Again, featuring Stevie Wonder, as well the anthem Letter to the Free, the end-title track to Ava Duvernay’s powerful Oscar-nominated documentary, 13TH.
The line-up for the weekend includes international music heavy-weights such as English musician, singer, and actor John Leee with the band, Imagination; British soul singer, songwriter and musician, Omar, who received an MBE for services to the British Music Industry in 2012; American born, R&B musician, Alexander O’Neal, who has created a cult following across the globe; and Nigerian award-winning world music artist, Femi Kuti.
The local talent line-up is equally exciting with jazz legend, Hugh Masekela, sublime South African songstress, Thandiswa Mazwai, and home-brewed afro-house band, Black Coffee, set to burn up the stage. A Kaya FM dance stage and local DJs will also keep the energy levels elevated with their high octane and funky mixes on Saturday and Sunday.
